Full Auto Polls in 2010 Assured

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) assured yesterday the conduct of full automated elections in 2010 after the House of Representatives approved on third and final reading the P11.3-billion supplemental budgets for the automation of the 2010 elections.

"We will have elections in 2010 and it will be fully automated," comelec Chair Jose T. Melo said during an interview after the house of Represented the budget for "an Automated Election System including the acquisition of services, supplies and machines on a lease with option tom purchase agreement/contract".

"The commission congratulates the House Speaker (Prospero Nograles) for his strong leadership. Imagine, during the caucus almost all the congressmen were against full automation, most of them were for the 'hybrid' (system) but Commission on Elections Chair Jose Melo confers with Executive Director Jose Tolentino during the hearing of the Joint Oversight Committee on Automated Election System at the Senate yesterday .

The senate panel is chaired by Senator Francis Escudero and the House panel is headed by Rep. Todoro Locsin Jr.
